South Carolina Watercolor Painter: Joe Park
1940 — 2010
A native of SC upstate, many of Joe Park’s paintings were inspired by his youth. He spent his childhood on a farm in Greenwood County during a time when the small family farm was still a common part of the landscape.
As an artist, Joe successfully mastered the use of transparent watercolors to depict the subtle colors and natural light inherent to southern rural communities.
Joe built tennis courts for a living and this took him all over SC, NC & GA. While out, he always took his camera so he could stop and photograph old barns, churches and rural scenes.
